There is space for everything and everyone in this world. What you feel as jealousy and betrayal is a weakness in another person towards a strength or power that you have. You should only have sympathy for them. But when their jealousy bothers you, you are succumbing to their negativity. If you continuously have the ability to be nice to them, that shows your courage and power. If you need to stay away from them to revitalize your mind, that is ok. But if you interact with them it should always be constructive.
To answer the second part of your question devotion is in fact the sweetest way to arrive at the divine. You are taught devotion in childhood because it is easy to understand God as a friend and beloved. Slowly as you progress in devotion you should be able to identify the God you saw outside you, as the same power within you. Then you have to remove the negativities in you to improve that awareness to perfection. Hari Om.
