Pranamam Swamiji. My father is 72 years old. His mental courage has decreased drastically over the last few years. His mind is always overruled by some fears. He strongly feels that all those things/events that he fears about will happen and he will have to bear the consequences of those at this old age. Any one fear will be dominating and controlling his mind all the time. We tried to convince him many times and even consulted different doctors and Clinical Psychologists several times. But not much improvement. Earlier he used to get some relief some times. But that will not last longer and soon he fall prey to some other fear that over rules and controls his mindFor the last 1.5 year, he is terribly worried over a court case in which he is also one of the accused. Since the opponents are politically strong, He fears that he will lose the battle and will get imprisonment. The very thought of it frightens him a lot. The mental trauma that he is going through is very severe and he has lost complete interest in life. Kindly guide us on what need to be done to help him come out of this situation and lead a normal life.

As people become old, it is quite common that uncertainty bothers them. Even Vasudevar, the father of Lord Krishna himself, had to face this anxiety and depression. This is why we were advised proper “ashrama dharmas” or a sequence of living. From Grihasthasramam to Vanaprastham to Sanyasam, so we can detach from worldly matters in a timely manner, fix our mind on the Divine and be unshaken in our later life. What your father now needs is “Satsang” or a company that will uplift his mind. If it is possible, bring him to a Sapthaham at the village or a location close to your home. Keep him away from financial and other issues that might stress him. He is worrying about things which he cannot change or deal with. The only solution is to give him the calm of a serene environment and other activities to divert his mind. He is welcome to stay at the Bhagavatham village for a few days. Hari Om.
