Swamiji:

Barbarika was the son of Ghatothkacha and grandson of Bhima. He learned warfare from his mother Maurvi. He wanted to participate in the Mahabharata war and promised his mother that he will only fight on the losing side. Krishna who knew his strength as a powerful warrior, made him understand the problem with his promise. The side he fights will tend to win because of his skill, but by nature of his promise, he will then have to fight with the losing side. This will have him oscillating sides so he will never be able to fight well. So Krishna advised him to watch the Mahabharata war from a hill top. At the end of the war, the Pandavas were fighting as to who was the reason for their victory. Krishna asked Barbarika who answered that during the whole war he saw the divine chakra and Goddess Mahamaya looming the warfield to kill “adharmis”.
His story tells us even when it looks like we are fighting the battle of life,….. Bhagavan is in charge. The story also reminds us that we cannot be undecided or oscillating sides when facing life situations. If we do, our great skills will not be of any use. Hari Om.
