Daanam or donation/kindness offered with a feeling that you are doing something great will not have the desired good effect.
The ego created will spread negative thoughts and disturbance in the mind, and finally whatever you do become your mistake.
An arrogant mind is a always a disturbed mind, and a disturbed mind always commits mistakes.
It is not the daanam, but your attitude which decides whether you deserve blessings or curse.
An arrogant person, though he might give away very valuable things, may invite curse into his life with his arrogance .
Hence one should consider daanam or whatever one does as an opportunity given by God to serve others.
