Gayathri Mantra is a highly revered Mantra of Rigveda. Though explaining Gayathri Mantra is beyond the scope of this paragraph, it is a prayer to bestow wisdom, enlightenment and discrimination. It protects the one who recites it. (gayatham thrayathe Ithi Gayathri). It is a bestower of all that is good in life and is ideally recited between 4-8am or 4-8pm. It is particularly beneficial to start reciting it at young age to improve the intellectual capabilities. A simple translation by Swami Vivekananda is “we meditate on the glory of that being who has produced the three worlds (physical, mental and spiritual), May he enlighten our minds.” However, Gayathri mantra has very profound dimensions to it which gives you “thrikarana suddhi” or purity of thought, word, deed.
