Pujya swamiji, In the recent saptaham held at Ernakulam, you told that the sarpam in Lord Shiva’s neck signifies Kaalam. On hearing this my son asked me How come Kaalam and sarpam be compared? Swamiji please explain.

Time is compared with snake because of many reasons. One reason is the “the movement of snake”, time also moves slowly and no one knows how it moves.
Second, the snake carries poison, similarly time brings all good and bad experiences.
Time binds the mind like the snake how it winds Lord Shiva.
Similarly there are many reasons by which it is compared with ” time” (kala Saram) as a snake swallows its pray slowly, all living beings are slowly disappearing into the Infinity.
