Hari Ohm.It is good to have compassion and kindness towards animals. at the same time we should retain the compassion even after the death of the animal. However there are two types of emotional compassion, one is regretting on something which we could not do,second is understanding about the journey of the soul. You should understand that all animals remain here like human beings do after death. If you pray sincerely after doing japam,108 times, your pet’s soul will get a good birth. Instead,if you are brooding over what happened and crying due to attachment ,you are stopping the further progressive journey of the soul.Keep on praying so that the life becomes beautiful for yourself and other creatures too.
