Yama and Niyama are the first of the 8 limbs in Patanjali’s ashtanga yoga. Yama is the universal code of morality and includes Ahimsa, satya, asteya (non-stealing), brahmacharya, and aparigraha (neutralizing desire to hoard wealth). Niyamas are personal observances like saucha, santosha, tapas, svadhyaya(self study), isvarapranidhana (surrenderance to the divine). Both these sets of things should become part of your everyday activity and interaction with others for spiritual fulfillment. Hari Om.
