When you practise meditation regularly you will learn the art of self observation.
That means you can see your own mind, its ups and downs.
Such an observing mind gets an ability of dropping or ignoring the disturbing thoughts by diverting the attention of the mind and engaging the mind in some positive thoughts.
In short, instead of regretting on your problems you invest your mind in positive thoughts and interesting works.
An engaged mind never broods over worries.
