Banyan tree is special in that every part of the tree is medicinal and used to cure a variety of ailments. On the spiritual side it is called “the tree of immortality” because a root grows down and then develops into a new plant. The reason we circumambulate (pradakshinam) around it is, the ability of Banyan leaves to breath out high concentration of oxygen during photosynthesis. So, when you meditate under it, you are maintaining a very healthy internal mileau. You are advised to do 7 pradakshinas around the tree every morning, to purify your system. Hari Om.
