Swamaji Pranam, what is the meaning of Shivaratri as you have explained in the Asianet Bhagavatam programme on Friday 18th Dec. 2009 please explain me once. Thanks

Dear Rajesh,
Shiva means auspicious.
Rathri means darkness.
Darkness is auspicious because the mind will be completely dissolved into sleep.
When we awaken into Self (Chaithanyam) the darkness of ignorance dispels.
Such a person enjoys the company of God and he gathers strength or spiritual energy.
So we should celebrate Shivarathri by transferring the worldly thoughts into Divine/Godly thoughts.
