Customs are determined by time and region. What is customary here, may not be acceptable elsewhere. Also, what is acceptable now may not be acceptable in the past. It was not uncustomary in the olden days for women to have more than one husband. Karna, from previous lives, came into life with karma to exhaust, which included being more or less an outsider on both sides of the conflict. Krishna who very well knew this, only allowed Karna to live off his karmic burden in this life. It was out of his compassion to Karna to reach a higher existential level. Hari Om.
