Consider a still Ocean as the Supreme awareness or God. A wave on the ocean is formed by the influence of the wind. The wave is very much a part of the ocean, but it is not the ocean. Once the wind that created and sustains the wave disappears, it merges back into the ocean. Similarly the mind or Jeevathma is an expression of the Supreme awareness or the Paramatma by the influence of the life force or Prana. When someone is in Coma, the thoughts(mind) stop, but awareness or the inherent intelligence that makes the body function is still there. The awareness does not undergo change in any situation, just as the ocean remains unchanged in the presence or absence of the wave. Hari Om.
