Anupama, I am sure you have three meals a day, good clothes, a house to live in and most of the things you need. Your parents provide those now….. How? Because they provide some service to the world through the job they do and get paid for their work. To give something useful to the world, we need to acquire that knowledge. It is not about history, biology or mathematics but getting the necessary skills to be productive individuals in the society. No matter what you want to do, you have to study and acquire that skill. In school you learn fundamentals of all subjects to have basic understanding about everything, in college you specialize in one area and earn a degree which will enable you to provide your service to the world in that particular field. So the purpose of studying is to be a useful citizen who can contribute to a better world. It is not what you study, but how skilled and efficient you become in your area of expertise, that matters.
