Swamiji. In our Indiam culture, a widow dont put sindoor or even a red bindhi. Also in some places they dont even wear colored dress or sarees or even attend marriages or functions. Does our Puranas say to follow such custom. What is the reason behind this. These widows once before marriage were kids..daughters..girls..etc. They were keeping these too . But why not after she becomes widow. Does our culture really says so.

Hari Ohm. A woman wearing ‘sindooram’ is considered to be a person who is protected by her husband. When she becomes a widow ,she has to protect her children. Now she has to have a more surrendering mind and needs to be more responsible as she has to play the role of father too. She becomes the protector rather than the protected.
The customs you described are the practiced by the society at various [points of time.
