Swamiji one of my friends asked a question to me that wheather original Bhagavata or Mahabharatha or Vedas or atleast their parts are still available? Is it preserved anywhere now? Hari Om!

Transmission of text in the Vedic period was by oral tradition only and remembered by special repetition and mnemonic techniques. The original bhoj patras on which Veda were written are destroyed, because they would not survive over a few years. The Sampurnanand Sanskrit University has a Rigveda manuscript from the 14th century. There are older Veda manuscripts in Nepal from the 11th century onwards. The oldest known copies of Atharvaveda are kept at the Bhandarkar Oriental Institute in Pune, Maharashtra. This museum also has many manuscripts of Puranas and related sastras.
The focus for us now, is to really understand “what is in the Vedas” than where the original book is. The knowledge is what gives us bliss, not the text. Hari Om.
