Dear Saraswati,
Nilavilakku represents our own self .’ Nila’ means ever existing, ‘Vilakku’ represents the Chaitanyam within us.
You can put one thread representing the self, two representing the paramatma & jeevatma, five representing the 5 senses through which the chaitanyam manifests itself.
When you light the lamp say mentally, ” Oh Lord! You exist in me in the form of chaitanyam. Whatever I do is what you have entrusted in me and whatever result it brings to me, I consider as your prasadam.”
