Swamiji, what is the core difference between mythology and epics in Indian context?
Posted by Nithya on April 26, 2016
Every culture has myths and epics. Myths are beliefs or stories of a certain group of people pertaining to their nature and culture. Epics however are elaborate poetic narrations to discuss an important context or principle. for e.g.. Ramayana is a poem to discuss the characters of divinity through Ram. Mahabharata is an elaborate background to expose Krishna’s life and teachings like Bhagavad Gita. When foreigners started writing on Indian life, they had a tendency to call everything relating to our tradition as myth and hearsay. This is something we have to now correct. Hari Om.
