Swamiji, My aunt and uncle are constantly arguing and fighting with each other. This has increased so much lately that now we are all scared of the consequences. But more than anything we are worried about their 10 yr old son. He is extremely sensitive and anxious and is scared about how the society will react to this. In fact yesterday they argued so much that my brother was very upset and scared.I feel that the reason they are still together is their son’s presence in their life. Swamiji, please suggest ways to make the child understand the situation so that he accepts and handles it well without feeling upset and without making his parents feel upset and guilty.

Dear Anjana,
Thank you very much for the concern you have for the child.
Tell him the stories of Dhruva & Prahlada in Bagavatham. Both their parents were fighting each other. But the child prayed sincerely. Finally they realised their fault.
Tell the child to tell the parents not to fight if they really want him. Tell them that he will leave the house and go somewhere and then no one will be there to take care of them in their old age.
He can tell his mother to keep quiet without reacting to father’s tantrums. This will defuse his anger.
As a last tool, the child can observe Upavasam (starve) on the days when parents fight.
The worry about the child’s health will change their mind.
Hari Om!
