The Purohits often quote Garuda Puranam as justification of religious rites for departed soul. In Mumbai the purohits charge Rs 2lacs to 6 lacs for doing the rites from 7th day to 13th day. It involves such things as giving oils,chappals, cows, etc to local purohits acquaintances to satifsfy the soul as it supposed to transport to the pitru loga. The soul is said to other wise suffer if these rituals and charity is not done. Does this Garuda purana prescribe these rituals? If so does it have any authority or sanctity?
