Dear Gowriji,
The story is related to Siva’s intake of “Kalakooda” poison during the churning of Palazhy.
But, it is not the story that is important, but it is the principle that you can also become part of Sivarathri by practising deep meditation.
Your mind will consciously sleep (rathri) in Siva ( your own self ); experience that instead of getting lost in information.
