What is the time taken as per our puranas for rebirth? When the chaithanyam leaves a body when does it takes another life? This question rises on the back of the rituals we perform after death. Do they have significance? Please explain in detail

The time taken to rebirth is determined by the karmabhalam. Rebirth and the stress of another life is given as a chance to add good karmas to your reserve. If you have enough good karma reserve you may not take a rebirth immediately and may remain in subtle form longer. The 16 days for Karma is related to the time the soul may potentially require to get a new body. This as per modern science is related to the time a sperm could reach an egg to create a new body. Please read the article on Karkidakavavu on our website, explained in detail there. Hari Om.
