When Yudhishtira became proud about his feeding thousands of people every day, Krishna takes him to Mahabali in Paataala who then asks Krishna what sin has he (Mahabali) has committed to see such a bad king as Yudhishtira. Thus the pride of Yudhishtira was removed. But the same Lord Mahavishnu punished His own staunch devotee King Mahabali by depriving him of his kingdom. Is this not double standards of the Lord? Similarly the Lord always protects Indra despite several wrong deeds of Indra. Why?

The first misconception to clear is that Mahabali was punished. He was sent to Sutala, the world of balance and equanimity because he also was proud of his ability to “give”. It was only when Bhagavan asked for three feet of land that he realized, what he donated as his, was in fact Bhagavan’s donation to him. Vamana explicitly says I am blessing Mahabali who was also told he will be the Indra of the next Manwanthara.Until then he will be guarded by Vishnu’s Sudarsana Chakram. In case of Indra, Bhagavan has intervened only when the Devas were outcast by Asuras. Here we need to understand when an existing social order gets disrupted or evil wins over goodness, Bhagavan or a Supreme Intelligence has to intervene to reset the disruption and create harmony. Hari Om.
