Dear Warrierji,
These are the local customs followed by each community based on their beliefs and social reasons.
It has no scientific explanations or reasoning.
I guess it is to avoid the fear as some times extreme fear leads to miscarriage also.
In order to protect the carrying women, this statement was spread over to the devotees.
