Why we are taking irumudi kettu to sabarimala ? Why we are wearing black mundu during sabarimala piligrim
Posted by Sanalvmenon on November 17, 2010
Dear Sanal,
The two pouches of the irumudi kettu represent the dualities of life, such as the positive/negative, good/bad, happiness/sorrow etc that we carry with us. It is kept on the head with one pouch pointing upward and the other downward to signify the ups and downs in life.
When it is offered to the Lord, it is symbolic of us surrendering all experiences of life at the Lord’s feet.
The black or blue mundu represents sacrifice. It is worn as a symbol that the devotee’s mind is withdrawn from all worldly pleasures and focused on God.
Hari Om!
