asmākaṁ tu viśhiṣhṭā ye tānnibodha dwijottama
nāyakā mama sainyasya sanjñārthaṁ tānbravīmi te
Arrogant people often realize wisdom only after facing silence from those who choose not to react to their outbursts.
In this sloka, Duryodhana realizes, through the quietness of his guru Dronacharya, that his earlier arrogant remarks were inappropriate. To cover up for them, he immediately tries to praise and uplift his teacher by declaring him equally competent and the best. Duryodhana should have expressed this respect from the beginning instead of first shaking his guru’s confidence.
