Chapter 1:12
Tasya sañjanayan harṣhaṁ kuru-vṛiddhaḥ pitāmahaḥ
Siṁha-nādaṁ vinadyochchaiḥ śhaṅkhaṁ dadhmau pratāpavān
An intelligent person does not get swayed by emotional sentiments. When Bhishma realised that Duryodhana, in his arrogance, was speaking boastfully and spreading fear and discouragement, he understood the impact of such negative talk on the warriors around him. To uplift their morale and purify the environment from this negativity, Bhishma blew his conch loudly.
This teaches us that when wise individuals encounter arrogant, self-glorifying arguments that pollute the atmosphere with fear and demotivation, they should redirect the situation—either by changing the topic or introducing a positive action—to restore clarity, courage, and focus.
