When arrogant people realize their mistake, they often try to cover it up by pretending that they are encouraging others, even though they had already discouraged them. In reality, their words cause further harm, because they do not truly understand what they are saying. Here, Duryodhana continues to list the names of the great warriors in his own army, thinking that this will give confidence and strength to his teacher. But unknowingly, he ends up boasting about himself, claiming that all these warriors have gathered to sacrifice their lives for him, and not for the nation. Such self-centered and arrogant people cannot think beyond themselves.
