Dear swamiji, i am a brahmin and i married to a nair lady. We hv a son. We are leading family life strictly following brahmin customs and traditions. Now a days my son is asking to get upanayanam for him to do the rituals. When i discussed this matter with my family priest, he is totally against this and advised not to invite sin to the family. So i want to do the upanayanam with outside priest who are willing to do this. Swamiji, pls advs whr this is against the customs and invite curses and sin to the family. Tks & Regds, S. Vasu Elayath.

Great that you and your family follow the ancient culture. You are doing something great when you decided to do upanayanam to your son.
Our Scriptures are saying sinful minded people should not do auspicious ceremony.
Your family priest is falling in that category because he can’t deny the right of an innocent child. There is no sin in doing this ceremony to your child.
Sage Vyasa’s father was a saint and mother was a woman born in the community of fishermen.
Yet our Rishis did Vyasa’s upanayanam.
Ask your priest about which Gothra he is in and all those sages who married women from other community had their children do the upanayanam.
HariOm!
