Respected Swamiji Swamiji, please clear my doubt……. .The non-vegetarians find justification for themselves by saying that even The Gods didnt observe ahimsa…. quoting from The Ramayana that Sree Rama,Laxshmana and Seetha had eaten deer meat during their 14years of stay in the forest and also that even plants have life ,so even consuming vegetables is ahimsa.I would like to know ,how far is this justified ,and please give me an explanation ,for the above.

Dear Jaya,
When we read the Puranas, we learn a lot of such practices done by the Great AVATHARS.
Many such stories reflect the traditions followed in the society during those ancient times.
If we do certain things that Krishna did, can you imagine the consequences?
Rama did not kill any animals with violence in HIS mind; it is the attitude that determines the quality of our action!
As far as non-vegetarian food is concerned, I have explained many times its negative effects.
From a practical point of view, today’s animals and birds like chicken are brought up with more chemicals than food.
Eating them causes harm to human body as well as mind.
Especially when you eat it with doubt and guilty feeling, it definitely causes more harm!
