Dear Swami -ji , I have been using the Gayatri mantra for my japam and because I have a close liking with Jesus, I wondered if it was acceptable to use the Jesus Prayer which is Lord Jesus Christ have mercy on me , for my Japam ? Yours sincerely , Hugh

It is not the mantra or the prayer that matters, it is your commitment and devotion in meditating on it that matters. In the process you become one with the mantra.
Begging for mercy is not a Hindu way of devotion.
You can even pray to Jesus with Gayatri Mantra to get the light of wisdom.
