Om namo narayanaya: Lately, in the past two years i happen to read some of our scriptures like Bhagvath Geetha and hear your discourses (Bhagavathamritham) which has entirely changed my view about god and life. I heard in saptahams that we should always chant so that it cleanses our mind. Can you please tell me, is it continous chanting of some mantra all the time, which I feel very mechanical, or is it that we should try to remember the divine present within us and everywhere whenever possible. Please clarify in detail. With all respect to Swami Udit Chaitanyaji-

Like you correctly said japam, dhyanam etc. are means to reach and establish the self in the divine consciousness, so every act eventually becomes a sadhana. Anything done without involvement becomes repetitive and mechanical. Same applies to japam. It is the concentration and involvement that matters. Only then does it provide clarity of thoughts and purity of mind. Practice with devotion and you will see the difference. Hari Om
