Respected Swamiji: Hari Om! I am experiencing extreme sadness and a heavy heart due to the demise of a close family member; being a Hindu and having read the Gita several times–I admit, I have a lot more to grasp– I am unable to appreciate when people write, ‘may the soul rest in peace’. I never write that. How can I modify this line? Something like “may the soul not wander restlessly” ? Vandanam, Swamiji…Radha

In Hinduism death and birth are just steps in the journey of a mind to its source, the infinite consciousness. If you grasp that fact, there is no reason to be sad about death. Your close family member would have gone through several births and deaths already. And this cycle stops only when the mind reaches Paramatma and dissolves in it. That is called Mukthi. So we pray that every departed soul reach the feet of Bhagavan. Hari Om.
