Please read the answer on Nirguna and Saguna Bhakti posted today. Worshipping God in the true essence as Paramatma (Nirguna Bhakti) or in a form of your choice(saguna Bhakti) is both allowed in our scriptures. One is not better than the other. Devi as Gayathri, Savitri or Saraswathi is the presiding deity for wisdom, intellect and speech(vaak). Likewise, we have different forms for different attributes. People worship different forms as it is easy for them to visualize and relate. But as you involve sincerely in devotion, you wisdom opens up to transcend all forms to the formless. Hari Om.
