Dear Swamiji, How does one handle individuals having negative attitude like suspicious , selfishness, temper etc…especially in close relationships. Can they improve or something be done to bring about change in them? Also how does one remain undisturbed staying with such person? Hari Om!

In close relations, quite often such problems happen because of a lack of open communication. Communication is like a bridge that connects both sides and should always remain open. Find out what the other person’s anxieties are coming from, and what you can do to avoid it. Doing things together is all that is needed, so there is a sense of belonging. Everyone wants to be accepted and appreciated. Unfortunately, we often take the most important people in our lives for granted and expect them to understand us. Instead, take a moment to understand them. It is ok to be disturbed when turbulence happens in close relations. The real question is, how strong is your love to forgive, forget and move on. Life is a process of caring and growing together by supporting each other emotionally instead of expecting others to facilitate you. And that love and care is built through small and simple gestures. Please remember, it is simple warm moments that build trust in a relation. If you give that, you will be loved and respected. Hari Om
