pranam swamiji. When doing meditation one should not focus on any object or thing. If this is correct then why do I come across people who mentions about focussing on things like flower or light etc. I thought meditation is all about defocussing. could you please help me remove this confusion.

At higher levels of meditation you are able to focus on nothingness. But, to get to that level, you need to practice the technique of concentrating. For beginners, this is achieved by focussing on something. As your concentration power improves, you can easily block thoughts even in the absence of an object to focus on. Hari Om.
