pranam.in a religion where ahimsa is the parama dharma, why animal sacrifices and rituals like vel kavadi which harms human body is practiced.is it mentioned in our scriptures or is it wrongly interpreted?

Unfortunately Hinduism over several centuries strayed away from its Vedic essence and became very ritualistic. Great masters like Sankaracharya and Buddha tried to correct this through their teachings. Such practices have no scriptural basis and it is essential that the Hindu Community understand our religion as a “science of the mind and being” and educate each other that way. As the understanding improves such rituals and superstitions will be discarded as well. Hari Om.
