Pujya Swamiji,Pranams!I am writing to you to express something which has been troubling me a lot,for sometime.Normally, when people read spiritual books or attend spiritual talks,it is thought that they would be more loving, compassionate and humble, less judgemental. But,I have been observing that in many people,it is having the opposite effect – the more spiritual messages they are reading or listening, the more morally superior they are feeling with the result that they are becoming intolerant, judgemental and hard-hearted. It seems that far from becoming more spiritual,it has resulted in them becoming more egoistic, which ironically is the opposite of spirituality. If,finally, one can’t develop the basic humane qualities like empathy, compassion and appreciation, what is the point of this whole exercise ?

I totally agree with you. As you say, spirituality has nothing to do with making others better, pointing fingers at others, judging others, or taking a morally high stand. It is just a process of looking inward and improving yourself. Understand when you point one finger at another person, four fingers are pointing at you. Every change should happen from within ourselves. Quite often people put others down from their own fear and insecurity. If you hear someone say, I am better than everyone else, I am smarter than everyone in understanding life or I am spiritually profound…….walk away from them. Hari Om.
