The greatness of Mahabharata lies in the fact that every character in the story is right in his perspective. Like we all are in life…..we all react to a life situation based on our perspective and everyone is right in his way. The goodness in Shakuni is in his love for his sister and nephews and his sense of responsibility to get them what they want. Duryodhana works under the premise that he and his brothers are the genuine heirs of the throne, being the children of the older Kaurava. His father was denied the throne because he was blind. But his children had no disabilities and hence Duryodhana could not understand why he had to give their property to his cousins. We see them as “wrong” because we know the final outcome of such stubbornness. But when life situations come, we all act like Duryodhana or Sakuni. With crazy attachment that causes destruction or with unjustified stubbornness to make things happen my way. Such characters are presented to us to learn from their experiences before we create havoc in our own lives, with wrong attitudes. Hari Om.
