Swamiji I read one of your messages which says we should not try to change anyone according to us and that we get only what we deserve. As children we were loved and protected by our parents and when we step into the real world of job and marriage we find jealousy and selfishness all around us, just yesterday my mother in law told me that I really don’t deserve the good house in a metro that my family gave me, this house really belongs to my Dad who expired when I was very small and my family gave to me,she thinks I am not very good at household chores and her daughter is so her daughter truly deserves such a house but isn’t lucky she says. There are a lot of people in our society like this and this hurts a lot. So swamiji is it that we deserve such people in our life as we are also selfish. But this thought depresses me a lot and fills me with fear and loneliness. How can a young woman find strength to live in a society that is waiting to find faults and push her down at every chance they get.

You Mother-in-law made a comment that exemplifies the statement “you get what you deserve”. Your sister-in -law may be a smart lady, but luck is not favoring her, Why? Because good things come to you or your children when you can think goodness for others. The more selfish and egoistic you are, you will remain at a level much lower than where you otherwise would have been. All that is best in life is given to the ones that are pure at heart.
Now, to answer your question on how to deal with a selfish world? Let me tell you…..99% of the people in the world are wonderful people. The 1% imperfect behaviors you can easily ignore. You may say, I see a lot of people who hurt me. What amount of those can be ignored? Like this statement your mother-in-law made. She is disappointed her daughter does not have what you have. But, does it make any difference for you, if you didn’t take that comment into heart? Your house is still yours and her opinion is hers. Young women like you should ignore the garbage around. You may see immature comments and behavior. If it does not affect your life directly, develop the strength to ignore. When someone is rude, they try to pull you down or portray you as bad, just think for a moment why they are behaving like that. Often, it is their own insecurity in play. Once you can identify that, it is easy to forgive people. Stay dignified and unshaken. Hari Om.
