It is part of the culture across the world to cover the body with a proper burial/ cremation cloth as a symbol of dignity and respect. It does not have to be “pattu”, some communities just use white cloth. Rituals vary accords to the region and order. The important thing is the respect we show. Last rites is our way of appreciating the contributions of the departed, and focuses on the journey of the soul. Hari Om.
