Swamiji:

From our perspective today, it is a terrible injustice to leave a pregnant wife in the forest alone. But, we are talking about an era when the King’s duty to his people was considered his primary responsibility. Right and wrong is always determined by place and time the event happens. What would have happened if Sita stayed in Ayodhya after that ? She and her children would be among people who would have looked down upon them or at least been suspicious. The best thing to happen to her was to be in the serene environment of Valmiki’s Ashram to raise her children. Our focus and lesson here should be the strength and tenacity of  Sita’s character. Instead of lamenting why My husband or life did this injustice to me, women need to learn how to stand up on their feet, when things don’t go the way we wish. She was not a helpless woman, as we imagine. It should be remembered she refused to go back to Ram thereafter. There is a learning point in every Puranic story. The lesson here is Sita’s courage in the face of  the toughest test life gave her. Hari Om.
