Isha vasyam itham sarvam! Swamiji recently I got an opportunity to listen a beautiful discourse of spirituality from Girish Kumar Sandya Deepam programme in Amrita Tv. A mother made 12 Idlis and she distributed among her 3 Children. For elder one 5, middle one 4 and the younger one 3 with love and affection and all of them were so happy. One day a “Sthithi Samathwa Vathi” (Don’t know the English word) came there and said, this is not a good practice. Everybody should get 4 Idlis each. Trouble started, Strike, hartal and kitchen closed. Finally they came in a settlement and decided to distribute 4 Idlis to each. Elder one got 4 idlis. Mother found he is not happy, his stomach is not full. Middle one got 4 idlis. He don’t have any issue because before also he got the same no. Younger one got 4 idlis. She found he is also not happy his stomach is upset because of more idlis.Swamiji … Who is this Sthithi Samatwa Vathi? (May be person like Mandara in Ramayana) Why we are all victim of such SSV?

Equality for all human beings is a great concept. But that has sometimes been misunderstoodas dividing resources equally, without understanding that the needs are different. In this classic example you quoted, the need of all children are not the same and mother was intelligent to know this. This is exactly the case why several paths, books and techniques were advised by our Rishis for different people…..with different capacities and mindsets. One size does not fit all. What is suitable for each should be provided. Hari Om.
