Siva is worshipped as the destroyer of the material world, meaning HE awakens our mind to the spiritual world. To reach the core of our spiritual existence, we need to develop a third eye or “Jnanachakshussu” like Shiva. To get there, we need to transcend the three basic levels of our alertness, called Jagrat(wakefulness), Swapna (dream state), and Sushupti (stupor) as represented by the three directions in pradakshina. All these three states connect you to the outer world. The fourth state called Thuriyam denotes an inward journey, into the core of one’s being, through regular Sadhana. So after taking 3/4 the pradakshinam outwards we walk back inwards, towards Bhagavan and complete the cycle. Such pradakshinam reminds us of how we need to live our life. Hari Om.
