Dear Swamiji, Recently when my friend’ s father died, the cremation was done without any rituals. The reason being the body was touched by non hindus of the hospital and hence “punar samskaram” with rituals done making a new body with chamtha stick and leaves chanting the name of his father, death star etc. What is the logic behind this. Do you approve these type of rituals. It is a fact that we will not take a bad coconut for ganapathy homam as “homadravyam” should be perfect like that a dead body when cleansed with water before cremation will be perfect and no “punar samskaram” is necessary. Pls advs your views. .

Your friend’s father died, and the body being touched by others became a problem. If he came back to life, would they have discarded the body, because it was touched by someone ? There is a lot more to Sanathanadharma than blind rituals. The fundamental understanding has to be the life contained in everyone and everything is the same. Once the life is gone, the body is only a heap of panchabhootas, nothing fancy about it. We have to grow up to understand our religion beyond logicless rituals. Or it will only alienate our younger generation from our religion. Hari Om.
