Dear Swamiji, Like most people in India, I grew up with the culture of ‘praying’ to God for personal favours. Your good self keeps repeating that we should not ask God for anything but just accept everything that happens to us. So I keep wondering if prayer has any value at all. There are many instances in Hindu mythological stories that God does answer prayers – for example, Krishna coming to Draupadi’s rescue when Dushasana tried to disrobe her and she called to Krishna for help. Can prayer induce God to come to our rescue when we are truly suffering?

Dear Sindhu,
Whether you pray or not, whatever comes to you is what you deserve only!
But, efforts combined with prayers leads to surrendering your actions.
Prayers for materialistic gains come from a weak mind.
(Prayer from Draupadi came from her utter helplessness and surrender and hence Lord Krishna came to her rescue; the Lord is the servant of HIS devotee ).
So, the intelligent devotee never leaves the feet of the Lord!
