Dear Swamiji, my husband did more hard work for earning money and he was away more from the family. But I know that he experienced and enjoyed his personal life in his way. I sacrificed my life for bringing up children and making security financially. Now children got settled very well and we r going on happily. Now, I have no attachment to my husband or children but doing my responsibilities well to those who want my help. I am more happy alone with spiritual books than living with my good family and cute grandchildren . I heard that the detachment is a very good quality but I feel that my mind is away with the family and cannot fully involve with the spiritual life. How can I remove the confusion?

You feel used by your family and want to detach from them, not because your mind is ready for it, but because you feel you don’t need to give more of yourself to them. We cannot become detached by trying. Detachment is something that happens to us. When you have involved with something to your heart’s content and don’t feel the need to be part of it anymore, Vairagya (no-attachment) happens. It is a process of maturation. The pull you feel towards your family or grandchildren is only natural. You can and should be involved to the extent that you feel fulfilled. Don’t force detachment from anything. Continue studying the scriptures and do regular namajapam. The karmic entanglements will automatically release at the right time. Understanding is the key. Hari Om.
