Congrats on your efforts to try for a job and support the family. You should never try to get a job by lying. It will never sustain. You can tell them you had some personal problems during that time and you could not focus well. You are now trying to get this job and study on the side. They will understand. You can tell them you will finish your supplementary papers in a certain time frame, and they can put you in a temporary position till then.
