Hari Om Swamiji, Does dharma mean duty? Who defines the duties of each role for a person? For instance, my view on dharma of a sister may not be same as another person’s . Where does karma fit in the concept of dharma?

The word Dharma comes from two roots “Dhr’ And “Rta”, essentially means “that which holds or sustains the cosmic order”. There is definitely a lack of the right word to translate this concept exactly into English. All human behaviors that maintain the cosmic order in positive values, can be considered Dharma. Though several social, cultural values and morals exist, what is right to your conscience is the most important in determining your Dharma. Karma on the other hand is a cause and effect. What you do or think becomes your karma. Whatever Karma you accumulate you have to live it off, in one way or the other, to be liberated from the cycle of birth and death. Hari Om.
