Sindoor is a mixture of mercury and turmeric. It is applied on the parting of the hair of a married woman, to control blood pressure and activate sexual drive. It is applied to the level of the pituitary gland where the feelings are centered. Over the Ajna chakra, it is a means to keep the mind cool. Traditionally red is the color to denote the female energy, and their desire for the husband’s longevity. Hari Om.
